ShortlistEV

Finding the right EV shouldn’t require becoming an EV expert.

There are more electric vehicles arriving in Australia every year — along with more specifications, battery sizes, charging speeds, range figures and opinions about which one is supposedly “best”.

ShortlistEV is here to make that decision simpler.

Tell us what you actually need from your next car and we’ll narrow the Australian EV market down to a small number worth your attention.

No endless comparison tables. No need to understand every piece of EV jargon. Just a better place to start.

What ShortlistEV does

ShortlistEV is an Australian EV research and shortlisting service.

We help you work out which electric vehicles are likely to suit your budget, driving, lifestyle and priorities.

Rather than showing you dozens of cars and leaving you to figure it out yourself, we narrow the field to up to three EVs that fit what you’ve told us matters.

For each one, we explain:

  • why we think it suits you
  • the things we think you should know before buying
  • practical considerations such as range and charging
  • Links to each shortlisted model on the brand’s website, so you can explore full specifications and details.

We don’t sell you the car. We help you work out which cars are worth looking at.

How the shortlist works

You tell us what you need. We knock out cars that don’t fit. You get up to three that do — and we won’t relax your budget or must-haves to fill the list.

  1. A few questions about how you’ll use the car.

  2. We don’t recommend anything that misses your must-haves.

  3. Up to three best fits — same answers, same order.

  4. If fewer than three cars meet your budget and must-haves, we recommend those — or none — and we say what blocked a shortlist. We won’t relax your budget or must-haves to fill the list. If you chose Only these brands, we won’t pad with other brands — we might recommend two, one, or none.

  5. We don’t sell cars. Go to the manufacturer or a dealer — View model on brand website.

If nothing fully fits

We only recommend cars that meet your budget and must-haves. If one or two do, that’s your shortlist. If none do, we name what blocked it so you can change an answer. We won’t fill the list with cars that miss your budget or must-haves. If you chose Only these brands, we won’t pad with other brands — we might recommend two, one, or none. Hard acceleration or no-stop range rules work the same way — we won’t pad past those either. If you keep a car that’s over your budget, we show it on its own, with an estimate of how far over it is. It isn’t one of our recommendations.

Any prices you see are indicative planning numbers, not a quote. Confirm drive-away with the manufacturer or a dealer.

Built to make EV buying easier

  • Fit before rankings

    There isn’t one “best EV”.

A brilliant car for someone commuting 20 kilometres a day and charging at home may be a poor choice for someone regularly driving between regional towns.

That’s why ShortlistEV starts with your needs rather than a generic Top 10 list.

  • Australian cars, Australian conditions

We focus on electric vehicles currently available to Australian buyers and consider things that matter here — including local pricing, charging, driving distances and vehicle availability.

  • Plain English

EV terminology can make a relatively simple buying decision feel unnecessarily complicated.

When terms such as WLTP, kilowatt-hours, AC charging, DC charging or vehicle-to-load come up, we’ll explain what they mean and — more importantly — whether they matter to your decision.

  • Things to consider matter too

Finding reasons to recommend a car is easy.

We think it’s just as important to tell you where it might not suit you.

That’s why our shortlists include Things to consider, not just reasons to buy.

Independent by design

ShortlistEV is independent of vehicle manufacturers and EV industry associations. Your shortlist is generated from your answers and our matching rules. We do not sell shortlist places or ranking. Some promotional badges may be paid; these are clearly labelled and cannot change which cars qualify or their order.

You don’t need to research every EV.

You just need to find the right few.
